Durham Light Infantry

Formed in 1881 as part of the Childers Reforms, the Durham Light Infantry already had a prestigious history. By the outbreak of the First World War, the regiment had raised 42 battalions. It won 67 battle honours, but lost more than 12,500 men during the conflict.
