Military Police Corps

The Military Police Corps were formed in the late 19th century when the Military Mounted Police and Military Foot Police were created. Although technically two independent corps, they effectively functioned as a single organisation. At the start of the First World War, there were 508 men serving; by the end of the conflict, this had risen to more than 25,000 men, working as an independent unit across all regiments of the British Army.
