The South Staffordshire Regiment was an infantry regiment with two battalions, and was created in the 1881 army reforms. At the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, both battalions deployed to the Western Front. The 2nd Battalion remained there until the end of the conflict, while the 1st Battalion was sent to Italy in November 1917.
The South Staffordshire Regiment also raised 11 Territorial and New Army battalions during the conflict.
