Wellington Mounted Rifles

The Wellington Mounted Rifles was an infantry regiment from New Zealand, raised for service during the First World War. It predominantly fought against the armies of the Ottoman Empire, including at Gallipoli and in Palestine.

During its service 369 of the regiment’s men died, either killed in action, or from wounds or disease. Another 453 men were wounded, some more than once. More than half of the dead and most of the wounded, were victims of the trench warfare of the Gallipoli Campaign.
