King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry

The King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, also known as KOYLI, was formed as part of the Childers Reforms in 1881. The regiment’s main two battalions served primarily on the Western Front, although the 1st Battalion spent three years in Salonika.

The KOYLI regiment also raised eighteen reserve and territorial battalions, serving on the Home and Western Fronts and in North Africa.
