Australian Imperial Force

The Australian Imperial Force (AIF) was formed on 15th August 1914, as a result of Britain’s declaration of war on the German Empite.

Initially comprising of one infantry division and a light horse brigade, by the end of the conflict, is had numerous corps and specialist units. Serving on many fronts, the AIF’s notable involvement was at Gallipoli, the Middle East and on the Western Front.

417,000 men and women served in the AIF, with over half being killed (approx. 60,000) or wounded (156,000).
