The Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) was formed on 15th August 1914, in response to Britain’s declaration of war on the German Empire.
Initially formed of just one division, the CEF quickly expanded to thirteen different corps. Its servicemen and women served in most of the main battles on the Western Front, including the Somme, Ypres and Passchendaele.
By the end of the conflict, 620,000 men had enlisted, and of that 60,660 died or were killed.
