Essex Regiment

The Essex Regiment was officially formed in 1881, as part of the Childers Reforms, but has a history that dates back more than a century before this.

The regiment raised 30 Battalions during the Great War and was awarded dozens of battle honours and a Victoria Cross. In total, the Essex Regiment lost 8,860 men, with fighting in Egypt, Mesopotamia, the Western Front. It had a vital role in the conflict around Gallipoli, and provided key support back on the Home Front as well.
