Loyal North Lancashire Regiment

The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment was formed as part of the Childers Reforms in 1881. Its battalions served in South Africa and were garrisoned in the Mediterranean, in Gibraltar, Crete and Malta. When the First World War was declared, the Loyal North Lancs expanded its forces, and soon had 21 battalions at home and abroad, In France, North and East Africa and India. The regiment lost more than 7,500 men during the conflict, gaining 68 battle honours, including 3 Victoria Crosses.
