New Zealand Expeditionary Force

The New Zealand Expeditionary Force (NZEF) was formed when Britain declared war on the German Empire.

Initially formed of two brigades, by the end of the war it comprised of seventeen corps. Over 100,000 men had enlisted, and they fought in the major campaigns of the conflict: Gallipoli, the Middle East and the Western Front.

Many units fought alongside the Australian Imperial Force, as a combined ANZAC army.

When the Armistice was declared, around 18,000 NZEF troops had been killed, with more than 41,000 more wounded.
