Originally formed in 1881, the Queen’s Own Royal West Kent Regiment was one of two of the county’s armed forces.
During the First World War, the two regular battalions fought in France and Mesopotamia. The regiment also raised 14 Territorial and New Army battalions between 1914 and 1918. These served at home stations, Gallipoli, Mesopotamia, Italy and on the Western Front.
