The Royal Dublin Fusiliers was an infantry regiment formed as part of the Childers Reforms in 1881. Having served in South Africa during the Boer Wars, eleven regiments were raised when the First World War broke out. Servicemen fought on the Western Front, at Gallipoli and in the Middle East and also on the Home Front – including the Easter Rising in Dublin in 1916.
The Royal Dublin Fusiliers lost around 4800 troops during the First World War, and was awarded 3 Victoria Crosses, 48 Battle Honours and 5 Theatre Honours.
