Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers

The regiment was formed in 1881, from the merger of the 27th (Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot and the 108th Regiment of Foot (Madras Infantry). It initially took on garrison duties across South and South East Asia and Ireland. The regiment was involved in fighting in the Boer War, before returning to further garrison duties in the Mediterranean, China and India.

During the First World War The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers fought on the Western Front, in Salonika and Palestine, and was involved in the fighting at, and evacuated from, Gallipoli. In 1916, the regiment was also involved in the suppression of the Easter Rising in Ireland.

Eight members of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers were awarded the Victoria Cross for their actions during the First World War.
