York and Lancaster Regiment

Founded in 1881 as part of the Childers Reforms, the York and Lancaster Regiment raised a total of 22 Battalions during the course of the First World War. During the conflict, 57,000 men with the regiment, of which 8,814 were killed and a further 32,000 wounded. Nearly 1200 gallantry awards were awarded to the regiment, including four Victoria Crosses. 8,814 men of this Regiment died during the course of the war.
